SAT
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is one of the two standardized tests (along with the ACT) for college admissions. It measures students’ preparedness for colleges and universities by testing the critical thinking skills that are essential for success in undergraduate courses. The test is owned, developed and published by the College Board. It is administered and scored by Educational Training Systems.

The SAT Reasoning Test: The SAT reasoning test is used for college admission and placement processes across the U.S.A. It is a 3-hour-and-45-minute test that evaluates the critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills that are required to pursue college-level courses.

Who are the test-takers?
The SAT reasoning test is taken by high school juniors and seniors, to gain admission into a college, for undergraduate or bachelor’s programs. They are also very useful in gaining various scholarships offered by many universities.

Who conducts the test?
The SAT is administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) and is conducted 6 times a year in India.

What does the test consist of?
The test has three sections divided into nine subsections. The various sections of the SAT Reasoning Test are:
1. Critical Reading: This includes three sections – two 25 minutes long sections and one 20 minutes long section. The questions in these sections are on Sentence Completion and Reading passages followed by some questions based on the passages.

2. Writing: This includes four sections - two 25 minute long sections, one 10 minute long section and one 25 minute long section. The questions in these sections are on
  • Identifying errors in sentences
  • Improving sentences
  • Improving paragraphs
  • Writing In the 25-minute section, a student has to write an essay and develop his/her opinion on a topic of general interest.
3. Mathematics: This includes three sections – two 25 minute long sections and one 20 minute long section. The categories of questions are as follows.
  • Exponential growth
  • Absolute value
  • Functional notation
SAT II: SUBJECT TEST: In addition to SAT reasoning test, some colleges also require that a candidate take the SAT subject tests in areas such as English, History, Mathematics, Science, and languages. The SAT Subject tests help the students in demonstrating their mastery and aptitude in specific subjects. All SATs are paper based, multiple choice tests. Tests are scored on a scale of 200-800 per section with a total of 600-2400. All SAT subject tests are of one hour duration.
