The TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) assesses one’s ability to
communicate in English language and also measures skills in reading, listening,
speaking and writing. This test is a requirement to get admission into various
universities in many countries like U.S.A, Canada, U.K., Australia and New
Zealand.
Who conducts the test?
The TOEFL is administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) and is conducted
at many locations in India, as an internet based test.
What does the test contain?
The TOEFL is scored on a scale of 0 – 120 and consists of 4 sections:
Reading: Passage reading followed by 36- 70 questions and the duration of
the test is 60-100 minutes.
Listening: to conversations and lectures and answering the 34-51
questions that follow in duration of 60-90 minutes.
Speaking: comprises of 2 tasks to express an opinion on a topic and 4
tasks to speak based on what is read and listened to, in a total of 20 minutes.
Writing: one task to write on what is read and listened to, and one task
to support an opinion on a topic, in a total of 50 minutes.
